The Text Adapter screen allows you to configure the Text Adapter to copy events rendered in text files into the AxisTV database. Once the events are copied to the AxisTV database, the AxisTV Event Schedule Plugin creates bulletins from them automatically.
This adapter is provided to give you a way to get events from many different Event Management Systems and packages. As long as you can export data from the Event Management package you can copy it into the AxisTV database. The minimum requirements are that the data include: Event Description, Event Date, Start Time, Stop Time, Event Building and Room, Event Status and Event Type.
The Text Adapter works from file definitions. Each file definition tells the adapter how the text file is structured internally. This structure is mapped to the AxisTV database in a flexible way.

Pick Existing File Layout |
The Text Adapter works by breaking text files apart based on the file layout that you specify. You can create as many file layout definitions as you wish if you have multiple text files from different systems. |
To create a new text file layout (while preserving existing layouts) click the New File Layout button. Layouts are numbered sequentially from 1.
File Location |
If the text file is visible to the AxisTV server you can specify a UNC path to its location, as in \\myserver\myshare\mydir\myfile.txt. You can leave this blank if you're going to upload the files via your web browser. |
Every text file must specify a delimiting character that enables the Text Adapter to distinguish the columns from one another. The two delimiters supported are the tab character and the comma.
Every column in the file must be labeled as something. You can choose from terms that are meaningful to AxisTV, such as Event Description or you can choose to ignore the column by telling the server to interpret it as "Filler". Filler columns just take up space and are ignored.
To add a new column to the layout click Add (after choosing the Interpret As). To clear the layout and start over click Clear Columns.
To change the Interpret As at any time just pick a new interpretation from the list and click Change.
Once you have finished modifying the layout you can click Finished to go back to the menu.
Once you have finished modifying the layout you can click Import Now to perform an immediate import of all the events in the text file.
Once you have finished modifying the layout you can click Upload with Browser to start the process of uploading the file from your browser. This will take you to a screen that lets you upload and immediately import the text file. |
